“Trump Signs AI Review Agreement with Tech Leaders”

President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he, along with a group of artificial intelligence company leaders, signed a voluntary agreement at the White House meeting for both internal and external reviews of the technology. Trump expressed confidence in the industry’s ability to self-regulate, emphasizing the importance of such measures.

The meeting, which included top executives from leading tech firms, focused on the significant investments being made in AI infrastructure across the country, amidst concerns raised by communities. Despite calls for caution in AI development following instances of AI malfunctions, Trump affirmed the U.S. government’s commitment to supporting AI advancements without imposing restrictions.

Among the executives present were Dario Amodei of Anthropic, Greg Brockman of OpenAI, Jeff Bezos of Amazon, and Elon Musk of the X social media platform. The lunch meeting at the White House also saw the attendance of notable figures like Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

While some AI executives have urged a more cautious approach to AI development, others like Huang and Zuckerberg have emphasized the importance of ensuring product safety. Vice President JD Vance, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson were also in attendance.

During the event, a new AI chatbot named America.gov was introduced to assist Americans with government services online. Trump’s optimism about AI’s potential contrasts with recent concerns expressed by industry leaders, with discussions revolving around self-regulation and community support for data centers hosting AI infrastructure.

Trump highlighted the need for financial support to local schools and energy cost reductions to address community opposition to data centers. Meanwhile, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman emphasized the company’s focus on safety, including pausing the release of new models over safety concerns.

Canadian-British AI pioneer Geoffrey Hinton critiqued Trump’s understanding of AI, likening the technology to owning a tiger cub that could pose risks if not properly managed. Trump views the global AI race as a competition between the U.S. and China, underscoring his commitment to leading in AI innovation without extensive collaboration with China.
