British actor Tom Holland, aged 30, faced a formidable foe on a recent episode of the popular YouTube series “Hot Ones” alongside his co-star Jon Bernthal, aged 49. The duo, known for their roles in “The Odyssey” and the upcoming film “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” braved the show’s signature challenge of answering questions while consuming increasingly spicy chicken wings.
Holland managed to navigate through all 10 rounds, but the real trial came after finishing the final wing. In a first for the show’s 11-year history, the actor experienced a bout of vomiting during the episode, albeit off-camera.
During the show’s filming for the outro, Holland suddenly coughed and briefly vomited under the table, with Bernthal enthusiastically cheering him on. Despite the unexpected turn of events, Holland maintained a good-natured attitude, joking about his lack of vomit on his designer clothes.
The incident occurred just before the notorious “last dab” segment, where guests add a final dollop of the spiciest sauce to their last wing. Both Holland and Bernthal attempted to devour the entire wing, leading to expressions of regret and physical discomfort.
The two actors, who have a longstanding professional relationship, first shared the screen in the 2017 film “Pilgrimage” and have since collaborated on major blockbusters. Amid tears induced by the spicy wings, Holland paid tribute to Bernthal’s mentorship and friendship, expressing gratitude for their shared journey in the entertainment industry.
Their appearance on “Hot Ones” follows the success of “The Odyssey,” a modern adaptation of Homer’s epic tale directed by Christopher Nolan, which grossed over $260 million globally in its opening weekend. Fans can catch Holland in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” set to release on July 31.
