The Montreal Victoire secured a 2-1 overtime victory against the Minnesota Frost in St. Paul, Minn., with Marie-Philip Poulin scoring the game-winning goal. Maureen Murphy also found the net, while Ann-Renee Desbiens made 20 saves for Montreal. Kelly Pannek equalized for Minnesota after pulling their goaltender, Nicole Hensley, with 1:02 remaining in regulation.
In overtime, Poulin executed a skillful back-hand shot from right to left, sealing the win for Montreal. This marked a repeat performance for Poulin, who had also scored an overtime goal in a previous match against the Frost on January 4.
Murphy opened the scoring for Montreal late in the second period, redirecting a shot by Nicole Gosling. Despite Minnesota’s offensive prowess coming into the game, they were held scoreless through two periods for the first time this season. The Frost have struggled this season when trailing entering the third period, with a 0-4 record in such situations.
Montreal had recently suffered a 2-1 loss to New York, ending their three-game win streak that started with Poulin’s previous overtime heroics against Minnesota. Natalie Mlynkova of Montreal narrowly missed a breakaway opportunity early in the second period.
Looking ahead, Montreal will face Ottawa at home on Saturday, while Minnesota will host the New York Sirens on Sunday.
