Kristýna Kaltounková and Anne Cherkowski both scored goals, with Kayle Osborne making 31 saves as the New York Sirens triumphed over the Montreal Victoire 2-1 during the PWHL’s Takeover Tour at Capital One Arena. The Montreal team, with a record of 5-2-0-5, saw its three-game winning streak come to an end.
The game, held in Washington, D.C., drew a crowd of 17,228 spectators, setting a new record for in-arena attendance at a women’s hockey game in the United States. This surpassed the previous record of 16,014 fans set during the inaugural home game for the Seattle Torrent on November 28.
Sarah Fillier contributed with two assists for New York (7-0-1-5), who have won five out of their last six games. The Sirens currently have 22 points, trailing league-leading Boston by four points and leading third-place Minnesota by one.
Kaltounková, the top pick in the 2025 PWHL draft, has scored nine goals this season, tying with Minnesota’s Kendall Coyne Schofield for the most in the league. Maggie Flaherty managed to score a power-play goal for the Victoire towards the end of the first period.
Kaltounková found the net early in the game by slamming home a rebound from Fillier’s shot, giving the Sirens the lead just 84 seconds into the match. Despite struggling to convert on their previous nine power-play opportunities, the Sirens managed to score, improving their season record to 5 of 40 with an extra skater.
Cherkowski secured the victory for the Sirens with a goal that put them ahead 2-1 with 5:13 left in the second period. Fillier assisted by passing the puck to Levis, who took a shot that Cherkowski redirected past goaltender Ann-Renee Desbiens for her first career goal.
Desbiens made 25 saves for the Victoire. The Victoire had previously defeated New York 4-0 in Montreal on November 25, but the Sirens turned the tables with a 4-3 home victory on January 2, where Osborne made a career-high 43 saves.
Montreal’s next game will be against Minnesota on Wednesday, while New York will face Ottawa on Tuesday.
