A 43-year-old man from Liverpool, N.S., is facing charges of pretending to be a police officer and stealing a dump truck in separate incidents on Nova Scotia’s South Shore. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) reported that on December 26, a man in plain clothes showed up at the Cookville RCMP detachment near Bridgewater, N.S., claiming to be a sergeant transferred from another province. When asked for RCMP identification, he admitted he didn’t have any. Subsequent investigation revealed no transfers or off-duty officers were expected at the detachment, leading to his arrest on charges of impersonating a police officer and violating a court order. He appeared in court on December 29 and was later released on conditions.
A few days later, the same man faced additional charges after Queens District RCMP responded to a stolen truck report on January 1. It was discovered that the individual had entered a garage in West Caledonia on December 31 and taken a dump truck. Police spotted the stolen vehicle on Highway 3 in Liverpool and apprehended the driver. The man was charged with break and enter with intent, auto theft, possession of stolen property, and two counts of disobeying an order. He has since appeared in court on multiple occasions and is currently in custody awaiting his next court appearance scheduled for February 4.
