Japan’s Kao Miura Triumphs in Four Continents Skating

Kao Miura of Japan emerged victorious at the Four Continents men’s figure skating championship, securing the title in preparation for the upcoming Milan Cortina Olympics. With a captivating performance set to the soundtrack of “Umbrellas of Cherbourg,” a musical drama from the 1960s, Miura clinched the top spot by a narrow margin, tallying a total of 273.73 points. His impressive free skate outpaced Junhwan Cha, who delivered a stellar performance to surge from sixth place in the short program to a close second with 273.62 points. Sota Yamamoto of Japan claimed the third spot with a total score of 270.07 points at the National Indoor Stadium in Beijing.

Both Miura and Cha are now set to compete at the Milan Cortina Winter Games, where the figure skating events kick off with the team competition in less than two weeks. Joining them will be Mikhail Shaidorov of Kazakhstan, finishing fifth at the Four Continents, and Boyang Jin of China, securing the sixth position. Notably, Roman Sadovsky led the Canadian skaters, finishing ninth among 26 participants with 233.51 points, followed by Wesley Chiu from Vancouver in 12th place with 220.31 points and Aleksa Rakic from Burnaby, B.C. in 14th place with 213.18 points.

The thrilling showdown between Miura and Cha, with a mere 0.11 points difference in the men’s free skate, highlighted the intense competition at the event. Miura’s exceptional score of 273.73 propelled him to claim the prestigious men’s title at the Four Continents figure skating championship in Beijing.
