Chuck Lefley, a former Montreal Canadiens center who achieved two Stanley Cup victories in the early 1970s, passed away at the age of 76. The Canadiens announced his death in Grosse Isle, Manitoba on Monday. The exact cause of his death was not disclosed.
Born in Winnipeg and raised in Grosse Isle, Lefley was picked by the Montreal Canadiens as the sixth overall selection in the 1970 NHL draft. He played a crucial role in the Canadiens’ Stanley Cup wins in 1971 and 1973.
Lefley’s career with the Canadiens saw him score 45 goals and provide 60 assists in 174 games, along with three goals and six assists in 24 playoff appearances. In the 1974-75 season, he was traded to the St. Louis Blues, where he delivered an impressive 43-goal, 85-point performance in the 1975-76 season.
By the end of his NHL journey, Lefley had amassed 292 points in 407 games.
