“Big Brother Canada” Returns for Third Season

Get prepared for another cycle of eliminations: A new season of “Big Brother Canada” is set to return for the third time, scheduled to premiere on CTV and Crave. The popular reality competition show will commence production in Montreal next spring, with casting specifics to be disclosed at a later date, as reported by Bell Media during its recent upfront presentations in Toronto.

Additionally, the network will broadcast the enduring U.S. rendition of “Big Brother” starting in the summer of 2027. Drawing inspiration from George Orwell’s renowned dystopian novel “Nineteen Eighty-Four,” the show brings together a group of participants, referred to as houseguests, in a purpose-built residence where they are continuously monitored through audio and video surveillance, isolated from the external world, and compelled to vie for cash rewards.

Contestants maneuver through social clashes and evolving relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds and beliefs, striving to evade expulsion from the house and elimination from the game. The Canadian revival of the show will be hosted by lifestyle presenter and entertainment reporter Andrea Bain, presently co-host of CTV’s daytime talk show “The Social” and previously part of CBC’s daytime program “The Goods.”

Expressing her enthusiasm on social media, Bain shared, “If you’ve watched me over the years, you know how much I love reality television, big personalities, unexpected twists, and unforgettable moments. So to now be part of a franchise that has delivered all of that for decades is truly a dream come true.” Bell Media’s agreement encompasses the catalog of the show’s preceding 12 seasons, available for binge-watching on Crave, in addition to the French version “Big Brother Célébrités.”

Since its inception in the late 1990s in the Netherlands, numerous adaptations of “Big Brother” have aired across many countries, achieving success from Brazil to the U.K., India to Australia. Initially introduced by Shaw Media and Corus Entertainment on Slice, a digital platform, in 2013, the Canadian version was subsequently moved to the primary Global network two years later.

The show, hosted by broadcaster and entertainment reporter Arisa Cox, who also featured in the early 2000s reality series “U8TV: The Lofters,” faced a hiatus after its fifth season, only to be revived for a sixth season due to fervent fan support. When Global announced its cancellation in June 2024, a fresh wave of protest emerged.

“We are eager to bring Canadian viewers more of the exciting and unforgettable competitive social gameplay they adore,” remarked Justin Stockman, Bell Media’s Vice President of Global Content, in a statement released on Thursday.
