The introduction of Fairground AI Creator TV, which features AI-generated content round the clock for free, was quietly integrated into Roku’s streaming lineup without an official announcement. Cord Cutters News was the first to report on this addition.
However, the unveiling of this new AI-driven channel has sparked criticism online, with viewers expressing discontent. Frank Landymore from Futurism labeled the content as “AI slop” that Roku is serving to the masses without their demand.
Similarly, Bradly Shankar from MobileSyrup was critical of Roku’s move, highlighting the oversaturated and costly nature of the streaming market and expressing concerns about the channel’s quality.
Fairground AI is categorized as a FAST channel, indicating it is a free, ad-supported streaming service. Although there are around 200 FAST channels accessible on the Roku Channel in Canada, Fairground AI is not among them currently. It remains uncertain if there are plans to introduce the channel in Canada.
Roku, a major player in the streaming industry, was recently acquired by Fox in a $22 billion deal. The emergence of the AI channel follows a trend of increasing AI-generated content across various entertainment mediums.
Fairground AI’s CEO, Colin Petrie-Norris, anticipates a similar evolution for the AI channel as experienced by YouTube creators, despite initial skepticism. He believes that the channel’s content will gain acceptance and popularity over time.
