CBC Quebec has announced the recruitment of two journalists tasked with covering off-island Montreal communities, as well as the Laurentians and Lanaudière regions. This initiative aligns with CBC’s commitment to enhancing local news coverage by hiring up to 30 permanent reporters to serve underrepresented communities nationwide. The expansion will see CBC’s local stations and bureaus increase from 48 to 66 across Canada.
Chloë Ranaldi will focus on reporting stories from the Vaudreuil-Soulanges area, while Andie Bennett will cover the Laurentians and Lanaudière. They aim to diversify CBC’s news content in these regions, highlighting the stories of the diverse English-speaking population residing and working there.
The journalists are keen on establishing connections within the community and welcome input from the public. They are interested in learning about community concerns, impactful stories, and future aspirations for the region. For those with story ideas in the Laurentians and Vaudreuil-Soulanges areas, a form is available for submissions, ensuring that Chloë or Andie will follow up.
Chloë Ranaldi brings a wealth of experience to her role, having previously worked at CBC in various capacities, including as a video-journalist, radio producer, and assignment editor. She is also pursuing a master’s degree at Concordia University, focusing on Canadian women’s representation in podcasts and traditional radio. With a decade of reporting experience in off-island communities like Vaudreuil, Hudson, and Saint-Lazare, Chloë will commence her role in early June, based in Hudson.
Andie Bennett, who resides in Morin Heights, will cover the Laurentians and Lanaudière regions. With a background as a sports columnist for Daybreak and CBC Television, Andie is known for spotlighting community sports initiatives. After her tenure at CBC, she joined TSN’s Team 690 and engaged in community development efforts in MRC des Pays-d’en-Haut in the Laurentians. Andie’s office is located in the Piedmont area.
Both journalists are committed to bringing comprehensive coverage to their respective regions, emphasizing community engagement and storytelling.
