A teenager from Saanich, B.C., is currently in critical condition at a hospital following a hit-and-run incident in Richmond, B.C., on Saturday night. Authorities suspect that he may have been involved in a physical altercation before being struck by a vehicle.
The 17-year-old, identified as Myles Mickey, had traveled from Vancouver Island to attend an all-ages dance party, a common activity for him and his friends. Police responded to the scene on No. 3 Road after receiving a report just after 11:25 p.m. PT, where they found the unconscious and bleeding teenager.
Preliminary investigations by the Richmond RCMP indicate that the victim was hit by a car following a fight at the roadside. Additionally, they are looking into an alleged assault causing bodily harm connected to the altercation. The vehicle involved is believed to be a dark-colored Ford Fiesta manufactured between 2014 and 2019, with front-end damage.
According to Mickey’s parents, he was not acquainted with the individuals involved in the altercation. The teenager was scheduled to graduate from high school in June and had plans to begin a construction training program the following Monday. However, he is currently in a medically-induced coma with severe injuries, including brain bleeds and multiple fractures.
Described as an active basketball player, Mickey faces a challenging recovery process due to his energetic nature. Despite the circumstances, his parents remain optimistic about his prognosis, expressing confidence in his strength and resilience.
Richmond RCMP are urging witnesses of the incident or those with dashcam footage to come forward. They emphasize the legal consequences of fleeing the scene after causing serious harm to another person with a vehicle.
