An individual from Essex is facing legal charges in connection with a dog incident within the town. Essex County Ontario Provincial Police reported that on the evening of Jan. 4, at approximately 7 p.m., they received a report of two dogs attacking another dog and its owner on Laird Avenue. The victim was subsequently transported to a hospital. Fortunately, the owner and the dog sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.
The 39-year-old Essex resident has been charged under the Dog Owners’ Liability Act with two counts of failing to prevent a dog from biting or attacking a person or domestic animal. The accused is set to appear in court, although the specific date has not been disclosed.
Authorities are emphasizing the importance of dog owners taking necessary precautions to prevent their pets from posing a risk to others or the general public. In a statement, the police urged dog owners to always ensure they can control their pets effectively to avoid potential harm to individuals or the dog itself.
