“Asia Adapts Work Schedules Amid Fuel Shortages”

In Sri Lanka, state employees will now enjoy an extra day off each week due to fuel shortages caused by ongoing conflicts involving the US, Israel, and Iran. The country faces challenges as Iran’s blockage of the Strait of Hormuz disrupts the flow of oil, impacting fuel supplies across Asia.

To address the crisis, Sri Lanka has declared Wednesdays as a holiday for state-run institutions, excluding essential services. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake emphasized the need to prepare for potential challenges while hoping for the best outcome. The government encourages public servants to work remotely and urges the private sector to follow suit.

Other Asian countries are also adjusting their work schedules to conserve fuel. The Philippines has shifted to a four-day work week to reduce energy consumption, while Vietnam promotes working from home. In Thailand, officials advise public servants to work remotely and use stairs instead of elevators to save energy, especially during a heatwave.

India is prioritizing household gas supply for cooking and transportation needs, implementing measures to mitigate the impact of global market disruptions on LPG prices. Restaurants in India are already feeling the effects of fuel shortages, with some reducing operating hours and menu options.

Countries are implementing fuel rationing and reserves to manage the crisis. Sri Lanka has initiated fuel rationing, while Vietnam and Thailand are ensuring high fuel supplies. South Korea plans to release oil reserves, and Japan is tapping into reserves to stabilize fuel prices. These efforts aim to mitigate the impact of the ongoing oil crisis on daily life and the economy.
