A police officer from southern Alberta and his spouse face fraud charges, according to the RCMP. Constable Grant Shade, who has been with the RCMP since 2021, and his wife Katrina Shade are accused of committing fraud and theft exceeding $5,000. The Alberta RCMP Serious Crimes Branch initiated an investigation based on reports of fraudulent activities involving Piikani Resource Development Ltd., which is an economic development entity owned by Piikani Nation.
Katrina Shade had been employed by Piikani Resource, as per the authorities. In addition to the fraud and theft allegations against the couple, Constable Shade has been charged with possessing property obtained through crime exceeding $5,000. He serves at the Piikani Nation RCMP detachment, situated 200 kilometers south of Calgary, and has been placed on paid suspension.
The specifics of the alleged offenses remain undisclosed, with the RCMP citing ongoing legal procedures as the reason for refraining from providing further information. Grant and Katrina Shade reside in Pincher Creek, located west of Piikani Nation, and are scheduled to appear in Fort Macleod court on February 18.
