Paramount has agreed to postpone the closure of its $81 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery in the United States well into the next year. This decision comes as a response to a legal challenge from 12 states aimed at blocking the deal entirely. Paramount stated that the merger will not be finalized until June 1, 2027, or until a court ruling is issued regarding the states’ lawsuit.
The delay follows a recent temporary restraining order issued by U.S. District Judge Araceli Martinez-Olguin, who acknowledged the concerns raised by the states about the potential negative impact of the merger on competition in the market.
Describing the agreement as a significant victory, Paramount emphasized that it aligns with their goal of proceeding to trial based on evidence. The company, recently acquired by Skydance, asserted that this approach offers a swift and transparent way to demonstrate the merger’s benefits for competition and the industry at large.

Bell Media confirmed that the existing agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery ensures HBO and HBO Max content will remain on Crave for the foreseeable future. This decision maintains the status quo for the popular streaming services in Canada.
