“Hilary Knight Competed with Torn Ligament in Gold Medal Game”

U.S. women’s hockey gold medal-winning captain, Hilary Knight, shared on “CBS Mornings” that she competed in the Olympics in Milan with a torn medial collateral ligament in one of her knees. Knight mentioned she faced challenges playing through the injury, both mentally and physically, but credited her supportive staff for helping her perform at her best. At 36, Knight scored the tying goal against Canada in her final Olympics game. Upon their return, Knight, teammate Kendall Coye Schofield, and Canada’s Erin Ambrose were placed on long-term injured reserve by their respective PWHL teams.

Knight, along with U.S. men’s gold medalists Jack and Quinn Hughes, are scheduled to appear on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” after their recent appearance on “Saturday Night Live” with Megan Keller, who scored the golden goal for the women’s hockey team. Jack Hughes also scored the winning goal against Canada in overtime, similar to Keller’s performance earlier. This victory marks the first men’s gold medal for the U.S. since the “Miracle on Ice” in Lake Placid in 1980. Jack and Quinn have resumed playing in the NHL for the New Jersey Devils and Minnesota Wild, respectively, following their media appearances.

Canada’s captain, Marie-Philip Poulin, expressed her emotions after the gold-medal loss to the U.S. in the women’s hockey final. Poulin acknowledged falling short but remained proud of her team’s efforts.
