Albertans welcomed the new year with enthusiasm as Lucky 7 Cattle Co. owner Stacey Simpson found herself in a surprising situation just three hours into 2026. The purebred Red and Black Angus cattle farmer from Sedgewick, Alta., was initially prepared for her heifer, Dukey, to go into labor. However, the unexpected twist came when Dukey continued showing symptoms even after delivering two calves.
Stacey recounted the moment her father suggested she check on Dukey again after leaving the maternity pen. To her surprise, she discovered a third calf in the process of being born. The triplets, named Carla, Darla, and Marla, were born healthy, defying the odds as triplet calves are rare, and their survival even more so.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Lucky 7 Cattle Co. has welcomed a set of thriving triplets. Dukey’s mother gave birth to Hewey, Dewey, and Louie just last year, who are still part of the herd. Stacey’s sister, Kylie, emphasized the rarity of the occurrence, considering they only manage 35 cows.
The future of Carla, Darla, and Marla at Lucky 7 Cattle Co. remains uncertain, as they might be kept for breeding purposes or put up for sale. However, for now, Stacey is enjoying the attention and novelty surrounding the triplets, with a video of the newborns gaining significant traction on social media.
The heartwarming story of the triplets has captured the interest of viewers worldwide, with the video on Lucky 7 Cattle Co.’s Facebook page receiving nearly two million views and attracting comments from people across different continents. Stacey expressed her intention to keep followers updated on the calves’ progress throughout the year due to the overwhelming positive response they have received.
