“Deadly Protests Escalate in Iran Amid Regime Crackdown”

Nationwide protests against Iran’s theocracy have now entered their third week, with activists reporting at least 116 people killed in the violence surrounding the demonstrations. The internet shutdown and severed phone lines in Iran are making it increasingly challenging to assess the situation from abroad. The U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency confirmed the death toll of 116 and stated that over 2,600 individuals have been detained.

Iranian state TV has been focusing on security force casualties and projecting control over the nation, while labeling dead demonstrators as “terrorists.” Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has indicated a forthcoming crackdown, despite warnings from the U.S. The Iranian regime has escalated its threats, with Iran’s attorney general warning that participation in protests will be considered a capital offense of being an “enemy of God.”

President Donald Trump expressed support for the protesters, emphasizing that “Iran is looking at FREEDOM, perhaps like never before. The USA stands ready to help!!!” The U.S. State Department also issued a stern warning, cautioning against underestimating President Trump’s resolve.

In response to the protests, Iran’s parliament speaker warned that the U.S. military and Israel would be considered “legitimate targets” if the U.S. launches an attack on Iran. Meanwhile, global leaders like Canada’s foreign affairs minister Anita Anand have condemned the violence and expressed solidarity with the Iranian people.

Conflicting reports emerged over the weekend, with state TV portraying peace in most cities while online videos showed ongoing protests in Tehran. The protests initially sparked over economic grievances and have since evolved into broader demonstrations challenging Iran’s ruling regime. The internet shutdown in Iran has raised concerns about a potential violent crackdown by security forces.

As the protests continue, airlines have canceled flights to Iran, and international tensions remain high. Concerns mount over the potential for further bloodshed as security forces crack down on demonstrators.
