“Windy Weather Causes Delays and Closures Across Province”

Some educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and government offices in the province experienced delays or closures on Monday due to inclement weather conditions. Environment Canada had issued a yellow warning specifically for Kings County due to the potential for damaging winds, although all warnings across the province have now been lifted.

At Westisle Family of Schools, classes were canceled for the day, while other Public Schools Branch classes proceeded with a one-hour delay. École Pierre Chiasson canceled classes for the day, but other CSLF schools operated with a one-hour delay.

In-person appointments were postponed until 9:30 a.m. at Tyne Valley Health Centre, O’Leary Health Centre, Alberton Health Centre, and Tignish Health Centre. Additionally, all provincial civil service offices in the West Prince area delayed their opening until 10:30 a.m.

Although the warning was specific to Kings County, CBC meteorologist Tina Simpkin warned that strong winds could affect Islanders throughout the province. She mentioned that the highest gusts would likely be along the Gulf of St. Lawrence, but winds of 50 to 80 km/h could be felt elsewhere on the Island.

The windy conditions are expected to persist throughout the day, gradually calming down by the evening and overnight hours.
