The search for a missing hiker in British Columbia’s Kootenay region has come to a somber end as the body of the third hiker has been discovered. The 35-year-old man, part of a trio that went over Meachen Creek Falls during the Labour Day weekend, has been located by RCMP in Kimberley, B.C. Efforts are currently underway to retrieve his body.
The tragic incident began when a group of three hikers, all Mexican citizens, encountered the waterfall. A 68-year-old woman’s body was found about halfway down the 85-meter falls on September 1 after a GPS SOS signal was triggered. Subsequently, the body of a 35-year-old woman was also located and recovered the following day.
Authorities have confirmed that none of the deaths are considered suspicious. The search and recovery operations involved Kimberley Search and Rescue, drones, police dogs, and Big Horn helicopters. The community mourns the loss of these hikers in this unfortunate accident.
