In response, the town is rallying support for its entry into the Kraft Hockeyville contest, which offers cash prizes for arena upgrades.

With the 2026 edition of the contest marking its 20th year, community support will play a crucial role in the selection process.
After the submission and community rally phase concludes on March 1, judges will select winners from each province and territory. The top two finalists will compete in a nationwide vote in April for a chance to win $250,000 for facility upgrades and the opportunity to host an NHL pre-season game. Other prizes include $100,000 for the runners-up and $50,000 for each provincial and territorial winner.
Taber Mayor Andrew Prokop sees winning the Hockeyville contest as a significant boost for the restoration efforts. While acknowledging that it is not a complete solution, Prokop highlighted ongoing discussions about upgrades or a potential replacement for the arena.
