Stellantis to Launch 11 New Models in North America

Global automaker Stellantis has announced plans to launch 11 new vehicle models in North America, creating potential opportunities for production in Ontario, according to the head of the company’s Canadian division. Stellantis currently operates two assembly plants in the country: one in Windsor, producing the Chrysler Pacifica and Dodge Charger, and another in Brampton, which has been inactive since 2023. Originally intended to manufacture a Jeep model, the Brampton plant faced a change in plans, sparking controversy over the significant taxpayer funding received by the company.

During an investor day event in Michigan, Stellantis unveiled its comprehensive strategy to enhance its global product lineup and regain market share following recent financial challenges. Stellantis Canada President Trevor Longley emphasized the influx of new models for North American brands, such as Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, and Ram, presenting opportunities for potential manufacturing locations.

The Chrysler brand, with a century-long heritage and currently offering only the Pacifica, will introduce three new affordable crossover vehicles. Meanwhile, Dodge plans to launch an entry-level performance vehicle, Ram is developing a muscle truck and large SUV, and Jeep is preparing to unveil fresh models. Stellantis executives hinted at substantial investments across their brand portfolio, although specific details regarding production facilities and timing remain undisclosed.

Union representatives expressed optimism about the prospect of new models being produced in Ontario, highlighting the capacity of the Windsor and Brampton plants. Unifor Local 444 President James Stewart emphasized the importance of maximizing production capabilities amid upcoming collective bargaining negotiations. Longley reiterated the company’s commitment to collaborating with government entities and stakeholders to secure sustainable solutions for the Brampton facility, hinting at the potential assembly of Chinese electric vehicles as part of a strategic partnership.

As discussions and negotiations continue, Stellantis remains dedicated to exploring various avenues to ensure long-term investments, protect jobs, and bolster production in Canada. The federal government, managing the funding agreements with Stellantis, affirmed ongoing engagement with relevant parties to secure the future of automotive production in the region.
