South Korea Wraps Up Talks with US on Detained Employees

South Korea has concluded discussions with the United States regarding the release of Korean employees detained in Georgia, as stated by a presidential representative on Sunday. Kang Hun-sik, the presidential chief of staff, mentioned in a televised statement that once the necessary administrative procedures are finalized, a plane will be dispatched to bring back the Korean individuals.

A recent operation conducted by U.S. federal agents at a Hyundai Motor manufacturing plant in Georgia marked the most extensive enforcement action at a single location in the history of the Department of Homeland Security’s investigative activities. The majority of the numerous individuals detained during this operation were Korean citizens.

In a significant development, South Korea has sealed a substantial trade agreement with the U.S., which includes a $350 billion fund to assist Korean businesses in entering the American market.

According to a report by CNN citing three Trump administration officials, U.S. President Donald Trump is potentially planning a visit to South Korea in October for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit. Meanwhile, the South Korean government official emphasized on Sunday that measures will be explored to enhance the visa system for Korean workers traveling to the U.S. to prevent similar incidents in the future.
