During Exercise Strike, crucial combat units like the mechanized infantry company and Leopard tank squadron were deemed combat ineffective due to the off-road rate. This shortage impacted various vehicles, including light armored vehicles, main battle tanks, and command vehicles, forcing over 150 personnel out of the exercise.
The Canadian brigade’s commander acknowledged the spare parts challenges, particularly for the Leopard tanks, emphasizing the need for continuous serviceability. Efforts are underway to address the issue, with Defense Minister David McGuinty actively involved in resolving the spare parts crisis.
