Carolina Hurricanes’ Seth Jarvis has been selected to join Canada’s men’s hockey team at the upcoming Milan Cortina Olympics, stepping in for injured Tampa Bay Lightning player Brayden Point. The Canadian Olympic Committee confirmed this change, citing Point’s inability to participate due to an injury sustained recently.
Point, a 29-year-old center hailing from Calgary, suffered a knee injury during Tampa Bay’s 5-1 win against the Philadelphia Flyers on January 12. In his place, Jarvis, who has showcased impressive performance with 25 goals and 18 assists in 48 games for the Hurricanes this season, will join the Olympic squad. Jarvis was also a key member of the Canadian team that clinched gold at the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament last year.
Having accumulated 121 goals and 256 points in 352 regular-season NHL games, the 24-year-old Winnipeg native brings considerable experience to the team. Jarvis’ addition to the roster follows another recent change where Sam Bennett of the Florida Panthers took over for injured Lightning player Anthony Cirelli.
Canada is set to kick off their Olympic campaign against Czechia on February 12.
