Senators’ Brady Tkachuk Slams Online Rumors, Backs Teammate

Brady Tkachuk stood up for his teammate Linus Ullmark off the ice as he does on the rink. The Ottawa Senators captain strongly criticized online rumors surrounding Ullmark’s personal leave, which prompted GM Steve Staios to condemn the “trolls” and “sick people” spreading false information. Tkachuk expressed his displeasure with the invasive narrative, emphasizing the inappropriateness of delving into personal matters. The Senators had disclosed on Dec. 28 that Ullmark took a leave of absence, leading to a 2-4-0 record in his absence and a ranking second to last in the NHL’s Eastern Conference.

Facing the Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers after two road losses, the Senators players addressed the online speculation and Staios’ statement. Staios had defended Ullmark, calling out those spreading rumors and requesting privacy for the goaltender. Tkachuk commended Staios for his support, denouncing the baseless rumors circulating online.

Senators center Tim Stützle echoed Tkachuk’s sentiments, affirming the team’s backing of Ullmark and dismissing false claims circulating on social media. Coach Travis Green also praised Staios for standing up for the team and emphasized the importance of supporting each other amid personal challenges.

As the Senators signed goalie James Reimer to an AHL professional tryout, the team looked to navigate Ullmark’s absence with Leevi Merilainen taking on the primary goaltending duties. Tkachuk emphasized the team’s unity and determination to overcome their challenges collectively.
