Quebec City police confirmed that Ahmed Yassir Ismaili-Alaoui, 42, who was found unconscious in a burning apartment building and later pronounced dead, was a victim of homicide. The incident occurred on Jan. 3 when firefighters responded to a blaze at his residence on St-Mathias Street in the Saint-Sauveur neighborhood following reports of flames on the second floor.
Ismaili-Alaoui was discovered unconscious in a bedroom by first responders who attempted to revive him before transporting him to the hospital, where he was declared deceased. The police department, Service de police de la Ville de Québec (SPVQ), announced the establishment of a command post in the vicinity until 8 p.m., urging anyone with information to come forward, no matter how insignificant it may seem.
Authorities can be contacted through the tip line at 418-641-AGIR or 1-888-641-AGIR for those outside Quebec City. Details provided by SPVQ’s William Robitaille described Ismaili-Alaoui as a person who used an electric scooter, hailing from Morocco and having limited French proficiency, leaving few specifics about him.
Robitaille emphasized the importance of any insights into the victim’s life to aid in the investigation. Following the autopsy results, the police confirmed Ismaili-Alaoui’s death as a homicide, clarifying that the fire in his apartment, determined to be arson, was not the cause of his demise. No additional details regarding the cause of death were disclosed. This incident marks the first homicide in Quebec City for the year.
