Diljit Dosanjh and Karan Aujla, prominent figures in Punjabi music on a global scale, are gearing up to headline at major venues in Canada, highlighting the genre’s surging popularity worldwide. Promoters are witnessing an unprecedented demand for their Canadian tours, comparable to top hip-hop acts.

Dosanjh will commence the Canadian leg of his Aura World Tour in Vancouver on April 23, with the goal of filling B.C. Place to capacity. Fans like Preet Gill, who is attending the Calgary show, express admiration for Dosanjh’s representation of Punjabi culture on the global platform.

Hailing from Punjab, India, Dosanjh has released numerous albums in his two-decade-long career and is a renowned actor in Hindi and Punjabi cinema. Notably, he made waves as the first turban-wearing Indian artist to grace the Met Gala in New York. His upcoming tour has garnered significant anticipation among fans, including young admirers like Gill’s 12-year-old son, Amarveer.

Meanwhile, Karan Aujla, a Juno Award winner who relocated to Canada following the loss of his parents at a young age, is embarking on his P-pop Culture Tour with back-to-back performances in Vancouver in early May. Tickets for Aujla’s shows are selling rapidly, with him becoming the first Punjabi artist to headline multiple nights at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto and Rogers Arena in Vancouver before turning 30.

According to tour promoter Baldeep Randhawa of Live Nation, South Asian artists are now major players in Canada’s live music scene, drawing comparisons to top mainstream artists like Kendrick Lamar and Drake in terms of demand and popularity.

The surge in streaming numbers for Punjabi music is fueling ticket sales, with Dosanjh and Aujla enjoying immense success on platforms like YouTube and Spotify. Their digital achievements are translating into substantial revenue, with Dosanjh’s 2024 tour generating $63 million US in concert-related spending across North America. Ticket prices for their shows in Canada are reaching up to $1,800, indicating the high demand and international appeal of these artists.

Canada, with its significant South Asian population, serves as a key market for Punjabi music, reflecting the country’s cultural diversity. Industry experts note the evolving music landscape, emphasizing the growing popularity and influence of Punjabi artists in Canada and globally.

Dosanjh and Aujla’s upcoming tour stops in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Toronto are highly anticipated by fans and industry insiders alike, underscoring the profound impact of Punjabi music on the Canadian music scene.
