During the Moncton double murder trial, a witness testified that the accused killer confessed to the crimes while they were both in prison. Janson Bryan Baker, 29, is facing two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Bernard Saulnier, 78, and Rose-Marie Saulnier, 74, in Dieppe on Sept. 7, 2019. The witness, whose identity is protected by a publication ban, revealed that Baker admitted to the double murder during their time in prison together.
The witness detailed how Baker disclosed that he and another individual, Zachery Trevors, visited the Saulniers’ residence under false pretenses, with Baker wearing a clown mask during the intrusion. According to the witness, Baker described a confrontation with the couple, leading to a tragic outcome where both victims were shot and killed. Baker allegedly confessed to taking jewelry from Bernard Saulnier’s body before fleeing the scene.
Additional testimony revealed that Alica Mehlenbacher, who was in a relationship with Trevors at the time of the murders, provided photographic evidence showing Baker wearing gold chains that belonged to the victims. Moreover, RCMP Cpl. Kelcie Levesque testified about the recovery of a stolen vehicle linked to the case, shedding light on the involvement of key individuals in the crime.
The witness, seeking leniency in his own legal matters, shared critical information with law enforcement, ultimately leading to Baker’s arrest.
