“Parents Concerned Over Trampoline Park Safety After Child’s Fall”

Two parents express concerns over the safety of a newly opened trampoline park in the Greater Toronto Area after their 11-year-old son had a fall from a zipline on Saturday. Ramin Azizi was at Aerosports Trampoline Park in Scarborough attempting to navigate the zipline on an obstacle course when his harness malfunctioned, causing him to fall approximately six meters and land on his back. Ramin shared that he was overwhelmed with fear, thinking he might not survive the incident.

Ramin’s father, Sadir Azizi, mentioned that it was Ramin’s first visit to Aerosports Trampoline Park. He highlighted that similar parks usually have additional safety features like nets or ground padding, which were absent in this case. Azizi vividly recalls his panic and concern for his son’s well-being, fearing severe injuries such as spinal cord damage or head trauma.

Following the incident, Ramin was discharged from SickKids after undergoing numerous medical examinations. Despite bruising his back, Ramin thankfully did not sustain any broken bones. Both Sadir Azizi and Mona Azizi, Ramin’s parents, emphasized the importance of raising awareness to prevent similar accidents from happening to other children.

In response to the incident, Aerosports Trampoline Park stated that they are currently reviewing the matter with their legal advisors and insurance providers. They mentioned that due to the involvement of a minor, they are refraining from providing further details or interviews at this time.

According to Sadir Azizi, Ramin fell onto a go-kart track that was not operational that day, averting further harm. Azizi believes that a loose rope on his son’s harness led to the fall. Laurie McCann, a spokesperson for the Toronto police, confirmed that a 911 call was made regarding the injured child and clarified that the incident was not of a criminal nature.

Azizi expressed dismay over the lack of immediate assistance from park staff and the absence of an apology from the trampoline park post-incident. He revealed that Ontario’s Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) informed them that the zipline has been shut down. Following an inspection on Tuesday, the TSSA declared that the zipline was not authorized as the park had not notified the TSSA of its installation, potentially leading to legal repercussions for the park.
