Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban End 19-Year Marriage

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have officially ended their 19-year marriage, marking the closure of a high-profile celebrity union. The legal dissolution of their relationship was finalized by a Nashville judge during a recent court session. Judge Stephanie J. Williams, in a court document, stated that the couple’s decisions regarding asset division and child custody arrangements were satisfactory, leading to the approval of their divorce. The judge cited “irreconcilable differences” as the primary reason for the termination of their marriage.

Both Kidman and Urban chose not to attend the hearing, and requests for comments from their representatives remain unanswered. The divorce process initiated when Kidman filed for divorce in September, catching many by surprise although preparations for the split had been underway, evident from the settlement of legal matters on the day of the filing.

Under Tennessee law, a 90-day waiting period is mandatory for couples with minor children before the divorce can be finalized. Kidman and Urban, aged 58, share two teenage daughters and acknowledged “marital difficulties and irreconcilable differences” in their divorce filing. The agreement they signed designates Kidman as the primary residential parent for the children, proposing that they stay in Nashville, their long-time home. It also specifies that neither parent will seek financial support, outlining an equitable division of their joint assets.

Hailing from Australia, Kidman and Urban crossed paths in Los Angeles in 2005 and tied the knot in Sydney the following year. Throughout their relationship, they were a notable presence on red carpets, attending prestigious events such as the Oscars and the Academy of Country Music Awards. Despite openly discussing some challenges in their marriage, the decision to divorce came as a surprise to many. Urban’s marriage to Kidman was his first, while Kidman was previously married to Tom Cruise from 1990 to 2001, with whom she shares two older children.
