Most of the NDP Members of Parliament faced travel challenges due to weather conditions, causing delays in their arrival in Ottawa for the Parliament’s reopening. A spokesperson for the party mentioned that four MPs, including interim leader Don Davies, were stuck in Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, and are now en route to Ottawa after being stranded until Sunday. Davies explained to The Canadian Press that their return flights from the caucus retreat in Rankin Inlet were canceled on Friday due to adverse weather conditions.
Heather McPherson and Alexandre Boulerice, other NDP MPs, are anticipated to be present in the House of Commons today. Meanwhile, Manitoba MP Leah Gazan is set to join virtually from Winnipeg. The NDP caucus is scheduled to convene in Ottawa on Tuesday following a weekend marked by severe cold weather across Canada, including Nunavut.
The NDP recently concluded their caucus meetings in Rankin Inlet with a town hall session, where approximately 50 community residents, including a local high school staff member, participated.
