Kiefer Sutherland Arrested After Altercation

Actor Kiefer Sutherland was taken into custody in the early hours of Monday following a report of an altercation with a ride-hailing driver in Los Angeles, as confirmed by authorities. The incident occurred shortly after midnight at the junction of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Ave., located just south of Hollywood Hills.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, it was established that the 59-year-old Canadian actor, known for his Emmy award-winning performances, engaged in a physical altercation with the driver upon entering the ride-hailing vehicle and also issued criminal threats towards the driver. Fortunately, the driver did not sustain any injuries requiring immediate medical attention.

Law enforcement officers apprehended Sutherland on suspicion of making criminal threats. He was subsequently released on a $50,000 US bond a few hours later, as per jail records, with his initial court appearance slated for Feb. 2, according to the same records. Despite an email inquiry to Sutherland’s representatives for comment, no response was received promptly.

Sutherland gained fame for his iconic role as federal agent Jack Bauer in the high-stakes TV drama “24” on Fox, along with its various spinoffs. His acting credits also include notable appearances in films like “The Lost Boys,” “Young Guns,” “Stand by Me,” and “A Few Good Men,” both directed by Rob Reiner.

The actor is the offspring of renowned Canadian actors Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas, and the descendant of former Saskatchewan premier Tommy Douglas, credited for introducing universal healthcare in Canada.
