Israeli Airstrike Kills Four Palestinians in Gaza

An airstrike conducted by Israeli forces resulted in the deaths of four Palestinians in the northern Gaza Strip on Sunday, as confirmed by local health officials. The incident occurred near Jaffa Street in Gaza City, where a group of individuals were targeted, leading to four fatalities and several injuries.

The Israeli military reported that the strike was carried out in response to a Palestinian militant cell operating in close proximity to their troops, presenting an immediate threat. This incident comes amidst ongoing tensions and violations of the ceasefire agreement reached last October between Hamas and Israel, following two years of intense conflict.

Since the ceasefire began, the Gaza Health Ministry has reported that Israeli actions have claimed the lives of approximately 700 individuals, while Israel has stated that four of its soldiers were killed by Gaza militants during the same period.

Recent discussions between Hamas and mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey in Cairo centered on a proposal for disarmament presented to the group. Hamas has expressed reluctance to discuss disarmament without assurances of Israel’s complete withdrawal from Gaza, as outlined in a plan suggested by the Board of Peace established by U.S. President Donald Trump.

In past conflicts, Hamas attacks on Israel in October 2023 resulted in the deaths of 1,200 individuals according to Israeli records. Israel’s subsequent military campaign over two years led to the deaths of over 72,000 Palestinians, predominantly civilians, according to Gaza health authorities. The campaign also resulted in widespread destruction, displacement of the population, and severe humanitarian crises in the region.
