Hyundai Canada Recalls Elantra Hybrids for Fire Risk

Hyundai Canada has announced a safety recall for select 2024–2026 Elantra Hybrid vehicles over potential fire hazards. The recall impacts 6,082 cars in Canada, as confirmed by Hyundai. According to Nitish Bissonauth, a spokesperson for Hyundai, there have been no reported fires, accidents, injuries, or fatalities related to this issue in Canada.

In the United States, 54,337 vehicles are being recalled for the same safety concern, as stated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The problem is attributed to a potential issue with the hybrid power control unit in some of the affected vehicles, which may result in overheating.

The NHTSA warns that this issue could lead to a “no start” situation or a reduced power mode in most cases, potentially escalating to overheating and an increased fire risk. Hyundai has assured that it will notify all impacted drivers and provide a complimentary software update to address the overheating issue.
