In a surprising twist, the setting for the steamy scenes in the popular series “Heated Rivalry” is not a Montreal apartment but a two-story house in Hamilton owned by Monika Rejnowicz, a bridal makeup artist. Rejnowicz humorously remarks that her home has always had a sexy vibe, which has now been immortalized as the love nest of protagonist Shane Hollander in the show.
The recognizable features of the house, including the orange sectional couch, the wraparound staircase, and the well-used bed, have captured the attention of fans. Rejnowicz reveals that location scouts approached her last May to use her house for the series, which depicts a clandestine romance between two rival male hockey players.
After writer-director Jacob Tierney’s visit, the location was finalized, and Rejnowicz and her family were accommodated in a hotel while the production team filmed at their home for about five days in June. Despite the intimate scenes filmed in their bedroom, Rejnowicz and her husband do not find it strange, recognizing it as part of the actors’ craft.
“Heated Rivalry” has garnered immense popularity since its debut, becoming Crave’s most-watched original series and a top-ranking show on HBO Max in the U.S. The show’s success has led fans to seek out filming locations, including the Muskoka Lakes cottage featured in the season finale.
Rejnowicz has received numerous inquiries from fans about the possibility of Airbnb stays or house tours, especially to see the iconic orange sectional couch. While she is open to the idea of hosting fans, she emphasizes the need for careful consideration.
Looking ahead, Rejnowicz is hopeful for a return of “Heated Rivalry” to her home for the second season, expressing a desire to see the story continue where it all began.
