Ryan James Wedding, a former Team Canada Olympic snowboarder, has been on the run for over a decade, allegedly leading a dangerous transnational drug-smuggling operation. Wanted by the FBI as one of their top 10 fugitives since March, Wedding has managed to evade authorities with a sophisticated strategy involving technology, finances, and influential connections, outsmarting both U.S. and Canadian law enforcement.
Originally from Thunder Bay, Ontario, Wedding transitioned from a promising snowboarding career to illicit activities. Following a cocaine-trafficking conviction, he relocated to Montreal and was later implicated in a large-scale cocaine importation scheme by the RCMP. Currently based in Mexico, Wedding is suspected of orchestrating the distribution of fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine across North America.
Wedding’s significant advantage lies in his ties to Mexico’s infamous drug cartels, particularly the Sinaloa cartel, known for its extensive criminal reach. Despite internal conflicts within the cartel, Wedding may be sheltered by them, leveraging his wealth and influential connections to evade capture. Additionally, his association with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel further enhances his network’s capabilities.
Furthermore, Wedding is believed to have strong global alliances, potentially extending beyond Mexico to countries like the U.S., Canada, Colombia, and others. His criminal network’s operations span not only North America but also overseas, indicating a wide-reaching influence. Utilizing cryptocurrency and money laundering techniques, Wedding’s organization manages to conceal substantial profits, posing challenges for investigators.
Encrypted communication plays a pivotal role in Wedding’s criminal activities, with his group relying on secure messaging platforms to avoid detection. Despite law enforcement efforts, Wedding’s ability to adapt his appearance and maintain a network of accomplices has allowed him to continue his illicit operations. Classified aliases and changing physical features further complicate efforts to apprehend him, highlighting the complexity of the ongoing pursuit.
The relentless pursuit of Wedding by law enforcement agencies underscores the gravity of his criminal enterprise and the urgent need to bring him to justice. With a history of violence and extensive criminal reach, Wedding remains a high-profile fugitive, evading capture through a combination of strategic tactics and criminal alliances.
