Disney+ in Canada is implementing a new price increase for its streaming packages. The popular platform featuring Star Wars and Marvel content will see a monthly cost adjustment, with the standard high-definition subscription going up by $3 to $15.99 per month, and the premium 4K package rising by $1 to $16.99 per month. However, the price for the standard subscription with ads will remain at $8.99 a month.
This price adjustment aligns with similar changes happening in other countries like the United States and the United Kingdom. Many streaming services are promoting ad-supported options to boost revenue, despite costing less for subscribers. While this is Disney+’s first price increase in Canada in about two years, other platforms such as Netflix and Apple TV Plus have raised their prices this year.
In another development, Disney+ is transitioning away from the Star branding to Hulu in all international markets, including Canada. This change aims to align Disney+ Canada more closely with the global market without impacting the available content.
Recently, Disney+ faced a public backlash when ABC, a Disney-owned network, suspended Jimmy Kimmel over comments regarding conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s assassination. This decision sparked debates about freedom of speech and led to some subscribers canceling their Disney+ subscriptions in protest.
