Christina Black, originally from Nova Scotia, secured a spot in the 3/4 Page playoff of the Scotties Tournament of Hearts alongside Alberta’s Selena Sturmay after winning their qualifying games on Friday. Black triumphed over Taylour Stevens in an all-Nova Scotia match with a score of 11-6, while Sturmay defeated Manitoba’s Beth Peterson 10-4.
Expressing her desire to continue playing, Black emphasized her reluctance to return home just yet, stating, “We just want to play as many games as possible so just let us keep playing. I don’t want to go home (Saturday). Now I don’t have to.”
In the upcoming national women’s curling championship, Sturmay and Black are set to face off in the Page 3/4 playoff on Saturday, while Kerri Einarson and Kaitlyn Lawes will compete in the Page 1/2 playoff later the same day.
Sturmay acknowledged the importance of maintaining a winning streak, noting, “We definitely know that we’re in a position where we’ve got to just keep winning, but we’re grateful to be here. We’re grateful to have a chance to represent Canada.”
Looking ahead to the competition, Black emphasized the need for her team to remain composed against their opponents, stating, “Stay calm, and, you know, it’s a long game. We’ve just gotta play like we can, and be patient.”
Einarson and Lawes also emerged victorious in their playoff matches, setting the stage for a highly anticipated showdown. The winner of their encounter will advance directly to the final, while the runner-up will face the victor of the Page 3/4 game in the semifinal.
