“Canadian Romance Writer Carley Fortune Announces New Novel ‘Only in Summer’ for May 18, 2027”

Canadian romance writer Carley Fortune has revealed the upcoming release of her sixth novel, “Only in Summer,” scheduled for May 18, 2027. The book revisits Barry’s Bay, Ontario, the familiar backdrop of her earlier works like “Every Summer After” and “One Golden Summer,” as well as her hometown.

Fortune shared in a newsletter that the inspiration for the novel came from her recent purchase of a cottage near Barry’s Bay, fulfilling a long-held dream since selling her family’s lakefront property. The protagonist of “Only in Summer,” Eleanor Florek, known as Ellie, also yearns to own a place in Barry’s Bay. However, her plans are disrupted when a neighboring house is demolished to make way for a lavish mansion by its new owner.

While specific details remain undisclosed, it is hinted that a blossoming romance might unfold against the picturesque lakeside backdrop. Fortune, a writer and journalist based in Toronto, has a background in editing for Refinery29, The Globe and Mail, Chatelaine, and Toronto Life. Her previous bestsellers include “Our Perfect Storm,” “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” “This Summer Will Be Different,” and “Meet Me at the Lake.”

“Meet Me at the Lake” was a notable finalist on Canada Reads in 2024, championed by fashion influencer Mirian Njoh, marking the first romance novel to feature on the show. Additionally, “Every Summer After” has been adapted into the Amazon Prime Video series “Every Year After,” renewed for a second season, while Netflix Canada is set to transform “This Summer Will Be Different” into a 10-episode television production.
