Canada’s Marielle Thompson is gaining speed as the Milano-Cortina Olympics draw near. The 33-year-old ski cross athlete secured a bronze medal at a recent World Cup event in Val di Fassa, Italy, marking her second podium finish in consecutive events. Joining Thompson on the podium were gold medalist Jole Galli of Italy and silver medalist Marielle Berger Sabbatel of France.
Hailing from Whistler, B.C., Thompson also clinched a bronze medal in Veysonnaz, Switzerland last week, her first medal of the season following a knee ligament injury at the end of the previous season.
Thompson’s recent success coincides with her selection as one of Canada’s flag bearers for the opening ceremony of the upcoming Winter Games. As the final World Cup event approaches on Saturday, fans can watch the action live on CBCSports.ca and CBC Gem starting at 6:30 a.m. ET.
In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, the ski cross champion discussed her recovery from injury, race mentality, and insights gained from past Olympic experiences.
