Singer D4vd, whose real name is David Burke, is under investigation by a Los Angeles County grand jury in connection with the death of a 14-year-old girl. The girl’s decomposed body was discovered last year in a Tesla registered to D4vd that was found abandoned in the Hollywood Hills. Court documents reveal that prosecutors consider the 20-year-old alt-pop singer as the focus of the inquiry, as indicated in grand jury subpoenas issued on Jan. 15 to summon three of his relatives for testimony.
The documents, which were previously sealed in California, were made public following an appeal from the singer’s family members in Texas. They suggest that the individual in question may have committed criminal offenses, including one count of Murder in the state of California.
The Tesla, a 2023 Model Y, was registered under D4vd’s name at the address of his relatives who were subpoenaed. While authorities have not officially named D4vd as a suspect, court filings indicate his association with the vehicle.
The body of Celeste Rivas Hernandez, identified as 14 years old in the documents, was found in a cadaver bag within the Tesla. The gruesome discovery occurred after the girl went missing in 2024 from her hometown of Lake Elsinore. Authorities reported finding the body in a state of decomposition, with the limbs severed and stored in a separate bag within the vehicle.
Despite the ongoing investigation, representatives for D4vd have not yet responded to requests for comments. The District Attorney’s Office declined to provide any statements regarding the case. In the midst of the unfolding events, D4vd had to cancel his performances and tours following media reports linking him to the investigation.
D4vd, known for his unique music style blending indie rock, R&B, and lo-fi pop, rose to fame among Gen Z audiences. His song “Romantic Homicide” gained popularity on TikTok and reached high rankings on music charts. Following his signing with major record labels, D4vd released successful EPs and albums, including “Petals to Thorns” and “The Lost Petals.” The artist’s concerts were abruptly halted after the shocking discovery, leading to the cancellation of multiple shows and tours.
