An Alabama cat available for adoption is gaining attention due to its unique feature of having two extra ears. Stephanie Brown, the foster parent of this special feline named Dobby, described the additional earflaps as smaller and situated in front of the regular ears, almost appearing backwards. According to Brown, these extra earflaps are just extra skin flaps and do not pose any issues or affect Dobby’s hearing, as confirmed by veterinarians who highlighted the rarity of this genetic mutation.
Dobby was discovered by Brown through a Facebook post made by his previous owners, who mentioned difficulties in Dobby’s interaction with their other cat. Named after the Harry Potter character, Dobby stands out not only for his extra ears but also for his short, curled tail and severe underbite requiring surgical intervention.
Despite Dobby’s unique characteristics, the shelter, Kitty Cat Haven and Rescue, has been inundated with adoption requests for him. Brown mentioned that they are currently holding off on adoption applications until Dobby undergoes dental surgery in April. However, she anticipates no trouble finding a suitable adoptive family for Dobby after the procedure.
Regarding Dobby’s additional ears, Brown confirmed with the veterinarian that they are not expected to cause any future complications. She expressed a desire for Dobby to retain his unique feature, believing it adds to his charm.
Stephanie Brown, along with her husband, has been fostering animals since 2020, driven by the need for foster families in the cat adoption process. Despite already having a household full of pets, including her own “wobbly” cat Phoebe, three other cats, a dog, and a young daughter, Brown admitted being tempted to adopt Dobby herself, though she remains undecided for now.
