Arsenal could reach the UEFA Champions League semi-final tonight if they can repeat last week’s heroics against Real Madrid. The Gunners go into their quarter-final second leg with a 3-0 lead and even a 2-0 loss on the night will be enough to secure their place in the penultimate stage of the competition.
Arsenal secured their three-goal cushion in a remarkable second-half display at the Emirates Stadium last week, with Declan Rice scoring two spectacular free kicks in 12 minutes. Arsenal already looked to be heading to the semi-finals for only the third time in their history when Mikel Merino netted a third from a Myles Lewis-Skelly near the edge of the box.
Real Madrid – who looked far from their usual selves – appeared deflated and were reduced to 10 men when midfielder Eduardo Camavinga was shown a second yellow in stoppage time. But if any team can overcome a 3-0 deficit, it’s the Spanish and European champions, who will be backed by what’s sure to be a packed Santiago Bernabéu.

Ahead of the game, Madrid’s Jude Bellingham backed his side to produce yet another historic comeback, while Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said his players are ready to make their own history. Speaking to Sky Sports, Arteta said: “When you talk about creating history, look at how small the history is, we haven’t won the competition.
“We are trying to do something where we are trying to start to dominate European competition. “We have to earn the right to do that on a big stage. It doesn’t get any better than this. It’s a great opportunity for the team.”
