Residents in the Bayview area near Lethbridge, Newfoundland and Labrador, have received an evacuation order due to a fire close to the Sexton Lumber sawmill on Route 233, as per an RCMP media release. Premier John Hogan announced on social media that residents from Oldford’s Hill to Southwest Bridge and Forest Drive are also asked to evacuate, with Anthony Paddon Elementary serving as the evacuation center. Authorities, including RCMP, Ground Search and Rescue, the Department of Forestry, and the local fire department, are actively responding to the situation. Route 233 is currently closed to traffic in both directions, and residents are urged to follow instructions from first responders. Kayla Dillon, a resident of Lethbridge, had to evacuate with her family and pets, describing the fire’s proximity to her home and the rapid escalation of the situation. She expressed fear and hope for the safety of her property as the fire continues to spread.
