“Firefighters Gain Ground on Long Lake Wildfire in Nova Scotia”

Firefighters are making progress in containing the Long Lake wildfire in Nova Scotia, as reported by the provincial Department of Natural Resources. The fire, spanning 8,468 hectares in Annapolis County, remains uncontrolled, but crews have successfully established barriers around its perimeter. This has enabled firefighters to advance towards the center, with gains of up to 100 meters in some areas.

Rain is anticipated in the region, with light showers expected in the afternoon and heavier precipitation forecasted for the evening. Presently, there are 40 firefighters from the Department of Natural Resources on-site, supported by 18 personnel from Ontario, 40 from Quebec, and 60 local firefighters.

Since its inception over three weeks ago, the fire has razed 20 homes and several other structures. Fortunately, there have been no further reports of damage. Earlier this week, residents from 360 evacuated homes were permitted to return, although 145 homes are still under evacuation orders.

Another update on the wildfire situation is anticipated on Monday as efforts continue to bring the fire under control.
