Many think the only time they can nab a good deal on some new tech is around Black Friday, the infamous sale in the run up to Christmas. However, that simply isn’t the case, as shown by a hefty discount on a highly-rated Amazon smart speaker.
The newest gen Amazon Echo Pop, which not only has Alexa functionality but also plays music and radio crisp and clear, is currently 33% off at £29.99. Usually priced at just shy of £45, this deal lets shoppers upgrade their home’s smart tech for less – and at the lowest price available at the retailer since November.
According to price comparison site Camel Camel Camel, the speaker was £18.99 in the run-up to Christmas 2024, and it’s not been cheaper than its current price since. Plus, the deal applies to all four of its colours – charcoal, glacier white, lavender bloom and midnight teal, all of which can be snapped up for less than £30.

In terms of functionality, the Echo Pop packs a punch. As a speaker, it boasts a full sound that fills a room, and users can ask Alexa – its built in AI – to play music, audiobooks and podcasts from all manner of outlets including Apple Music and Spotify. Plus, it’s possible to connect to the speaker with a smartphone via Bluetooth to control manually.
Alexa can also help with household management, controlling compatible smart home devices like plugs or lights, as well as setting timers, checking the weather, reading the news, buying items from a shopping list, and more.
Another nifty feature is that the device can be turned into a WiFi extender, so it can be used to make sure the internet is usable all over the house.
One of the Amazon Echo’s biggest competitors is Google and its Nest range, which includes the Nest Hub 2nd Gen, currently £89 at Argos. This smart speaker has a built-in screen, so users can watch YouTube videos or stream their favourite Netflix or Disney+ shows as well as listen to music and more. Like the Echo Pop, it has smart home functionality and its own built-in AI. If shoppers are after a portable smart speaker, they could take a look at the Sonos Roam 2. This one can be taken around the house or out and about, and has voice control, great sound, and an all-day battery life up to 10 hours, and it’s waterproof to boot.
However, the Amazon Echo Pop has been enjoyed by buyers who have awarded it a 4.7-star rating from over 18,500 reviews. “I like the fact that the speaker is directable towards me and not all the way around in a circle. As a result, the sound is much clearer and obviously not muffled when in a confined space,” said one shopper.
“The only issue I have with it is that I find the buttons difficult to locate, being on the upper side of the rear of the device.” Another praised the sound quality, writing: “I mean, I’m no audiophile, but as a musician I know what good sound is, and this thing delivers. It’s crisp, clear, and surprisingly full for something that could easily fit in a backpack.”
“The Echo Pop is a delightful surprise!” said another. “For such a compact speaker, the sound quality is impressively full and clear. Alexa responds quickly, and setting it up was a breeze. Perfect for adding smart home functionality to any room without taking up much space. The charcoal colour is sleek and blends in nicely.”
Some users did run into some issues, however, with one noting that it’s a “great speaker once you play with the equaliser, but can glitch out sometimes, and that causes it to be unresponsive to voice control.
“Other than this it is good quality, especially if you get it on a deal,” they added.
“Super cute colour and the device looks amazing in my room, but I feel this device doesn’t pick up sound as well as previous Echo devices I’ve had,” another said. For those looking to upgrade their smart home, the Echo Pop deal is worth checking out.
