British Airways crew member found dead in hotel room on stop over before London flight

A British Airways crew member has been found dead in a hotel room during a stop over.

The young man’s colleagues are said to have raised the alarm after the man did not turn up to work before a flight from San Francisco to London. Hotel staff are said to have inspected his room, where he was discovered lifeless. It is feared that he may have been dead in the room for as long as two days. The scheduled flight to London Heathrow on was cancelled after staff were reportedly too distressed to continue. Passengers were not told the reason for the flight cancellation.

The Mirror has approached British Airways for comment.

One British Airways source told The Sun: “There was no way the flight back from San Francisco could go ahead. Staff were in absolute bits at the sudden loss of their friend.”

The colleague is said to checked in at at the Marriott Marquis hotel on Tuesday following a flight to Heathrow, but did not report for the return flight on Thursday.

Pilots had reportedly left to the airport while his cabin crew colleagues waited in reception.

After his body was found, the pilots are said to have returned to the hotel to offer support.

The young colleague was described as a “popular” member of the team.

Passengers affected by the cancelled flight were provided accommodation until the airline was able to put them on alternative flights.

British Airways operates two direct flights to San Francisco International Airport (SFO) a day from Heathrow airport.

Last November, a British Airways pilot tragically died during a layover in St Lucia.

The 47-year-old pilot was understood to have collapsed at a luxury hotel on the Caribbean holiday island.

Holidaymakers are said to have witnessed the senior first officer’s collapse, which is reported to have left crew members in need of counselling.
