Lola Young forced to run off stage as she vomits midway through Coachella set

Lola Young battled through sickness as she overcome having to leave the stage to vomit during her Coachella set on Friday.

The 24-year-old pop star became unwell during her set, which was performed in 40 degree heat, and led to her running backstage while asking for a bucket to be sick into. The singer has enjoyed huge success with her hit single, Messy, but she had to take quick action to avoid it turning messy on stage.

The singer shared details of the moment on her Instagram page on Friday. Lola posted a montage video of her trying to sing through her sickness. After suffering a couple waves of nausea, during which she retches, Lola eventually ran off stage asking: “Can I get a bucket?”

Speaking to her 14 million followers, Lola captioned the video clips with: “Not me doing my first Coachella & gagging & throwing up all the way through the set.” The first clip sees Lola gagging while dancing in a double-layered bikini top, before heading to the side of the stage.

Another clip, shows Lola covering her mouth while dancing, before telling the audience: “It was getting real bad here guys.” It was at this moment that Lola decided that she could not contain her sickness any longer and headed backstage to find a bucket.

The show must go on though, and Lola was soon returning and she captioned the clip: “And I’m back n twerking my way through the sickness.” She then added in the final clip of her montage, the moment she told the crowd: “That wouldn’t have been cute if I threw up.”

Lola captioned the post with reference to her hit single: “If ur coming today maybe it’ll be messier. Trying to hang in there with all my power.” She also added that nerves had a part to play in the situation: “I was nervous guys and it was 40 bloody degrees.” Lola finished by urging fans to return later to see her perform again: “I’m back today, same time, same tent love ya x”.

Lola famously shocked fans when it was revealed who her famous aunt was. Not many knew her aunt is Julia Donaldson – who wrote The Gruffalo. The children’s book is illustrated by Axel Scheffler. The 76-year-old star also wrote Room on the Broom and Stick Man. In January 2025, Donaldson became Britain’s best-selling author, surpassing controversial writer J.K. Rowling by around 600,000 sales.
