Snow and heavy rain are hitting Newfoundland again, leading to weather warnings from Environment Canada. Meteorologist Graham MacDonald mentioned that the predominant weather feature for the day would be snow transitioning into freezing rain and then rain. A significant amount of rain, around 20 to 30 mm, is expected in the southern Avalon with a rainfall warning in place, but it should diminish as the system moves out quickly. Additionally, freezing rain in the northern Avalon is forecasted to change to rain later in the day, with expected rainfall of about 10 to 20 mm.
A wind warning is in effect for the entire Avalon due to southwesterly winds reaching speeds of up to 80 km/h inland and 100 km/h along the coast, though winds are expected to subside by evening. MacDonald described the day as potentially messy but not treacherous.
Different types of precipitation, including snow, ice pellets, freezing rain, and rain, are anticipated across the Bonavista Peninsula, with snow accumulation around 10 cm and rainfall ranging from five to 10 mm. The Gros Morne area is likely to experience snow and blowing snow, while the Northern Peninsula could see five to 15 cm of snow, especially in the eastern parts.
Environment Canada advises caution while traveling due to hazardous conditions.
